Ripped from the Headlines is one of many TV Tropes used in BT Productions.

Basic Info[]

A plotline is very similar to a well-known (or maybe not-so-well-known) news story, recent or otherwise.

Examples[]

  • Elvia Widmore is loosely based off of the Angela Williams case from Deadly Women. Elvia has a short temper, and her reactions tend to manifest as striking someone with a pickaxe. This is how Angela killed her husband on Deadly Women. The tidbit about "permenantly disabled at best and bludgeoned to death at worst" drew inspiration from Candace DeLong's comments during the case.
  • BT Productions got the idea to create a serial bigamist character (Princess Aimi) after watching the Shonda Johnson case from Deadly Women.
  • Anakletos Fabre is loosely based off of Kevin Hughes from Mystery Diagnosis. Except Anakletos got it worse than Kevin, as Anakletos developed a phobia of barbeques after the near-death incident. Also, Anakletos cannot speak normally.
  • Claudette Bishop believed she was possessed and will soon find herself obsessed with space babes like Jen Bishop. This is based off a real-life case where a woman who believed in the Friday the 13th hex died before her 23rd birthday.
  • Sammy Samuellson lost her sight when she was 14 years old, and had to navigate the world by touch until she got glasses. She used to get sympathy for this until an advertisement featuring her aired and spread all around the world. Thus, people stopped taking Sammy seriously, and she responded by suddenly disappearing. This deconstructs an ad featuring a very similar story.
